Prep roundup: Murphy’s Manuel strikes out 14 Turks

EVERETT — Archbishop Murphy’s Amber Manuel appears to have Sultan’s number.

For the second time this season she shut down the Turks, pitching a complete game to help the Wildcats to a 7-0 victory in the Cascade Conference softball game.

Manuel (2-0) allowed two hits and struck out 14 batters — the second time she’s struck out 10-plus against Sultan.

“It’s a great win for her,” Murphy head coach Stephanie Arland said.

It was only the second game Manuel has pitched — both against the Turks (2-7 in league and overall) — and she has 25 strikeouts.

“Amber did a great job pitching,” Arland said. “She’s gonna be great out on the mound. We just gotta get her out there more.”

The sophomore also batted 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Wildcats (8-1 in league, 9-1 overall).

Manuel’s catcher, Marea Homes (2-for-3, three RBIs) provided the other highlight when she hit Murphy’s first home run of the season. She came close in a game against Coupeville but the outfielder reached over the fence to take it away.
