PREP ROUNDUP: Shorewood reaches baseball semis

TACOMA — If you didn’t think Shorewood, a team that finished tied for fourth in Wesco South and had to beat Oak Harbor in a 4A District 1 play-in game just to reach the playoffs, would still be alive heading into Memorial Day weekend, well, you would not be the only one.

With wins on Saturday over Puyallup and Kelso (5-3 and 6-5 respectively), Shorewood continued its impressive run.

The Thunderbirds have now won five straight loser-out games to advance to the state semifinals Saturday at Safeco Field.

“The kids worked hard, they deserve it especially with the road they had to hoe to get there,” Tonkin said.
