STANWOOD — Brooke Gilbert score both Glacier Peak goals, including the game-winner on a rebound off a penalty kick, as the Grizzlies edged Stanwood 2-1 in a non-league season opener Tuesday at Stanwood High School.
Gilbert started the scoring for the Grizzlies in 45th minute, but the Spartans tied the score in the 70th minute when Kalina Eveland found the back of the net.
The score remained tied until the 95th minute, when Spartan goalkeeper Haley Haugstad dove to her left to save a Glacier Peak penalty kick. Haugstad made the save, but it bounced right back to Gilbert, who buried the ball in the upper right corner of the net.
The Grizzlies are 1-0-0 on the season, while the Spartans fell to 0-1-0.
