SHORELINE — After a scoreless first half the Shorewood boys soccer team broke through with goals in the 50th and 74th minutes to take a commanding 2-0 lead en route to a win in a 3A first-round state tournament game.
The Thunderbirds advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face Bainbridge — 5-0 winners over Hazen in the first round — on Saturday.
Shorewood head coach Nate Davis said both teams played an even first half but that his team’s depth may have taken over in the second half. Hayk Avanesyan broke through with a goal 10 minutes into the second half and Eugene Holley scored later in the half to all but ice the game.
