Prep soccer: Stanwood captures district playoff spot

STANWOOD — The Stanwood girls soccer team was playing for a win and a possible 4A District 1 playoff berth, and it showed.

Ahead of Monroe by one point in the standings, the Spartans came out and defeated the Bearcats 2-0 at Stanwood High School Thursday to pull away in the Wesco North standings. Stanwood’s win, combined with a Snohomish loss to Everett, clinched a district playoff berth for the Spartans.
