LAKE STEVENS — With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, senior Marissa Rathert’s RBI single scored the go-ahead run and the Arlington softball team held on to defeat Lake Stevens 2-1 in a Wesco 4A North matchup.
“She’s a money player,” Arlington head coach Dan Eng said of Rathert. “This is her senior year and she knew the situation. She’s a pressure player, she knew it was up to her, and she came through.”
After giving up one run in the first inning, sophomore Chandler Bishop held the Vikings scoreless for the remainder of the afternoon, allowing just four hits for the game. Bishop is now 3-0 in the circle for Arlington.
“She was outstanding. After she settled down, she hit her spots and changed her speeds a lot.” Eng said of Bishop.
Senior Katelyn McDonald started the rally in the sixth for the Vikings with a double, the only extra base hit for either team. A sacrafice bunt put McDonald on third before she scored on Rathert’s single.
Rayne Sylvester allowed just four hits over seven innings but took the loss for the Vikings. Arlington is now 3-0 in league play and 5-2 overall. Wednesday’s loss drops the Vikings to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.
