EVERETT — Mackenzie Melby broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run home run in the fifth inning and the Cascade softball team came from behind to beat Snohomish in a Wesco crossover game on Friday.
“This is a huge win for us,” said Cascade head coach Wendy Close. “From here on out every game is huge. Snohomish is a good team.”
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but things could have been much worse. With the bases loaded an no outs, Cascade pitcher Makinlee Sellevold buckled down, allowing a run to score on a sacrifice fly but then getting a fly out to first and a strikeout to end the threat.
Snohomish tacked on two more runs on a two-run single by Trysten Melhart in the second inning, but the Bruins would go on to scored six runs in the next three innings to take the lead and win.
Sage Andersen was 2-for-2 with two RBI and Megan Miller scored two runs for Cascade, which is battling Jackson for first place in the South.
