EVERETT — Jackson quickly took control of a nonleague softball game against Everett on Friday with two of its three home runs coming in the first inning.
The four-run first resulted from a pair of two-run homers by pitcher Lindsay Robison and Matti Tetzlaff and led to a 14-11 Jackson victor
y.
Robison finished the game with two home runs and pitched a complete game, giving up six hits and 11 walks while striking out five.
Everett’s Lexie Levin hit two home runs and was walked in her next three at-bats. Bailee Wetmore added two home runs for Everett, finishing the game 2-for-4 with five RBI. Jackson and Everett combined for seven home runs.
“It was wet and cold, and it definitely hurt the pitching,” said Everett head coach Kyle Peacocke. “These are two teams that are very good hitting teams. It was an offensive battle, basically.”
Everett began the bottom of the sixth inning behind 9-6, but finished the inning ahead by two because of a Wetmore home run, a three-run blast with two outs that gave Everett an 11-9 lead.
Jackson came back at Everett in the seventh with five runs, three of them coming on Megan Cooley’s bases-loaded triple.
“We took the lead and just couldn’t hang on. We made a couple of errors, but they took advantage of it every time,” said Peacocke.
Everett had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh but catcher Anna Hudson grounded out to end the game.
