Prep softball: Monroe 2, Edmonds-Woodway 1

EDMONDS — Monroe scored in the top of the ninth inning to beat Edmonds-Woodway in a Wesco 4A game. The Bearcat’s starter went all nine innings, had 13 strikeouts and scored the game winning run. Katelynn Lafferty of Edmonds-Woodway also pitched a complete game. The season got off to a rocky start, with one Warrior taken off the field by medics and the lights going out prematurely according to Edmonds-Woodway coach Mike Vernable.
