EVERETT — Six words summed up Monday’s game between the Snohomish and Cascade softball teams: “It was really sloppy out there.”
But despite the nagging protests of Mother Nature throughout the afternoon, the two teams got in seven innings before it was called, with Snohomish winning the game 11-4.
Cascade and Snohomish combined for 20 walks and eight errors as the field conditions worsened by the inning and the pitchers’ grip on the ball was tenuous at best. Fifteen runs were scored yet there was just one extra base hit, a lead-off double which didn’t even come around to score.
The home plate umpire called the game with Snohomish ahead 11-4 as the Bruins batted with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom half of the seventh inning.
“It should’ve been called earlier but it was the right call (to call it in the seventh) because it was getting too sloppy out there,” Cascade head coach Wendy Close said. “I thought it would’ve been called after the fifth inning. It was bad.”
Snohomish (2-0 in league, 3-0 overall) starter Bailey Seek and Cascade (2-1, 2-1) starter Samantha Munger endured the poor weather to pitch the entire game for their respective teams.
The win keeps the Panthers tied atop the Wesco North standings alongside Arlington.
