Heiss, a junior forward, scored four goals — all in the second half — as the Eagles thumped Mount Vernon 8-0 in the season opener for both teams.
Alyvia Wright, Darrington volleyball
Wright, a sophomore setter, recorded 15 assists, three aces and two kills as the Loggers opened the 2019 season with a 3-1 win over Seattle Lutheran.
Maggie McGinness, Edmonds-Woodway volleyball
McGinness, a junior setter, compiled 33 assists and spread the ball around to a balanced Warriors offense in a 3-2 win over Monroe to open the season. Four Edmonds-Woodway hitters had at least six kills as the Warriors rallied from an 0-2 deficit to beat the Bearcats in five sets.
Chris Combs, Shorewood boys tennis
Combs beat Jackson’s David Barr in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 6-3) to help the Thunderbirds defeat the perennially contending Timberwolves 5-2.
Kathryn Cheng, Jackson girls soccer
Cheng, senior forward/midfielder, recorded a hat trick in the Timberwolves’ 4-0 win over Stanwood.
