Madison Pressler
Sophomore | Jackson
Pressler capped an impressive freshman season by winning the state championship in the 200 freestyle at the Class 4A state meet. Her time of 1 minute, 53.16 seconds was good enough to edge Inglemoor’s Kayla Roberson, who finished in 1:53.50.
Pressler followed up her state title with a fifth-place finish in the 100 backstroke. She was the only freshman to place in the top-eight in the event.
Pressler also swam a leg in the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay for Jackson. The two teams finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
Jackson coach Drew Whorley said he is excited to see what Pressler can accomplish as a sophomore.
?If she continues to embrace the challenges that swimming provides, I don’t think there is a limit on what she can achieve,? he said.
Brianna Lucien
Junior | Mariner
Lucien’s time of 5:04.46 in the 500 freestyle at the Class 4A state meet was not only good enough for first place, it was nearly six seconds faster than her nearest competition.
Lucien also finished third in the 200 freestyle. Her third-place finish, coupled with a win by Jackson’s Madison Pressler, gave Wesco two of the top three placers in the event. With a time of 1:55.06, Lucien just edged Skyline’s Stephanie Munoz, who finished in 1:55.13.
?She’s a highly motivated athlete who sets a goal and does all she can to achieve it,? Mariner swim coach Jennifer Angelos said. ?She’s fun to watch race as well, she can really take it to the next gear when she decides to.?
Britt Blomso
Junior | Stanwood
Blomso turned in a strong showing at the 2013 Class 3A state meet, finishing eighth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 100 backstroke. She also helped the Thunderbirds’ 200 medley relay team to a seventh-place finish and was the anchor on the 400 freestyle relay team that placed 11th.
?She’s one of the most determined, athletic competitors that I’ve ever worked with,? Shorewood swimming coach Susie McDowell said. ?She is consistent, dependable and has high expectations for herself.?
McDowell said the goal is for Blomso to improve on her times from a season ago and return to the state meet.
Kaelee McCloskey
Junior | Archbishop Murphy
McCloskey placed third in the 100 butterfly at the Class 2A state meet and won the same event at the district meet, setting a district record. McCloskey also placed fifth at state in the 200 individual medley in 2013, and fifth in the 500 freestyle in 2012 as a freshman.
McCloskey said her goal is to crack the top three at state again this season and hopefully improve on her placing.
?Kaelee is a strong swimmer and a leader amongst her teammates,? first-year Archbishop Murphy head coach Erin Edmondson said. ?I believe she will achieve the goals she’s set for herself.?
