KENNEWICK — Stanwood’s Megan LaLone fell just short of a state championship, falling in the 4A girls singles title match 6-1, 6-3 to Meghan Cassens of Decatur Saturday.
LaLone reached the final with a 6-1, 6-0 semifinal win ovwer Corinne Wurden of Central Kitsap.
In doubles, Amanda Waldron and Michelle Nelson of Edmonds-Woodway finished fourth, winning two consolation matches Saturday. They beat Kelly Watanabe and Jess Lund of Lake Washington 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to reach the medal round and then defeated Laurin Rico and Clarissa Abadesco of Oak Harbor 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth-place match.
Rico and Abadesco were sixth. They advanced to the consolation final with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Eliana Spero and Niki Skinner of Kentwood.
3A boys doubles: At Vancouver, Brendan Soelling and Daniel Snyder of Everett were ousted in the third round of consolation 6-0, 6-2 by Zach Kosanke and Colin Dresser of Bellevue. So were Scott Boemke and Grant Lovell of Meadowdale, who lost 6-1, 6-2 to Jacob Yannello and Joel Richardson of Lakes.
