Prep tennis/swimming: Jackson maintains its hold on 1st place

SHORELINE — The Jackson Timberwolves maintained first place in the Wesco South with a decisive 6-1 victory over Shorewood Tuesday.

Jackson, 11-1 in league play and overall, remained one game in front of 10-2 Kamiak, which also won its match Tuesday.

“That’s a pretty consistent record for this group of kids,” Jackson coach David Hutt said. “Hopefully we can finish the rest of the season just as strong.”

Shorewood, which entered its match with Jackson tied for third place with Edmonds-Woodway, dropped to 8-4 and slid into fourth place.

Hutt said the match was closer than the final score indicated, adding that Bruno Manfredi’s 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 decision over Hunter Nelson at No. 4 singles and David Keon and Chris Chung’s 6-3, 6-4 victory over Adam Kalman and Andrew Haug at No. 3 doubles were key wins for the Timberwolves.

“That’s pretty much what clinched it for us,” Hutt said.

Scott McConnell was the lone winner for Shorewood, recording a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Robin Choi at No. 2 singles.
