PREP TRACK ROUNDUP

EVERETT — Everett captured the All-City track and field championship Friday, with a score of 234. Jackson finished with 227 and Cascade with 189.

“We kind of had a chip on our shoulder coming in, being the smaller school,” Everett boys coach Doug Hall said. “We definitely are excited being the small kid and coming in and winning the city championship.”

The final scores were combined boys and girls scores.

“I have to give credit where credit is due, our girls team stepped up huge,” Hall said. “They were amazing.”

Hall credited Suzy Olsen’s performance, saying she gave up the opportunity to possibly set a personal record in one event, to run the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter races. Olsen placed second in all three events.

“That right there is sacrifice for the team,” Hall said.

Everett freshman Amanda Quinlan competed in the long jump for the first time in her high school career. She set a 3A District 1 season-high mark with a jump of 16 feet, 6 inches.

Nick Thomas, who always runs the 100 and 400 relay, also competed in the long jump and high jump to score a few extra points for the team.

“I guess the theme is sacrifice,” Hall said.
