PREP TRACK ROUNDUP: Bowers breaks her own Jackson shot put record

EVERETT — Samantha Bowers proved something last year when she set a Jackson school record in the shot put.

Thursday, Bowers one-upped her mark with a throw of 39 feet, 2.5 inches, crushing her old mark by nearly 2 feet, and the Jackson girls team cruised to a 132-18 Wesco South dual-meet win over Mountlake Terrace at Everett Memorial Stadium.

“The most impressive stat of the day was the shot put,” Jackson girls head coach Steve Till said of the massive hurl.

Bowers also won the discus throw with a mark of 100-9.

Jackson’s Claire Grosvenor won the 100- and 200-meter events and was on the winning 800 and 1,600 relay teams.

Senior Chanel Sam placed first in the long jump with a distance of 15-3.25 for the Timberwolves. Sam, who placed in state two years ago in the long jump, took last year off but has returned with reaching state in mind, Till said.

The Jackson boys defeated the Hawks 80-65. The Hawks’ Hunter Rook tied with Tony Carnevale in pole vault, each going 11-0 with the same amount of attempts.

Michael Gerbasi won the 100 (11.50 seconds) and 200 (24.57) for Jackson.

The Mountlake Terrace boys won the two relay events (400 relay in 46.53, 1,600 relay in 3:46.54) to reel in Jackson, but Jackson’s dominance in the individual track events were enough to handle Terrace’s field dominance.
