ARLINGTON — Cascade’s Dylan Hopper dominated the distance events while Marysville-Pilchuck’s Mark Pangilinan took care of the sprints and hurdles during the first day of boys competition in the Wesco North track and field meet Wednesday at Arlington H.S.
Oak Harbor’s Shantae Young was the top female competitor, winning the championship in the long jump (17 feet, 4 inches) and qualifying first in the 100-meter dash.
Hopper won the title in the 1,600 and qualified first in the 800. Pangilinan qualified first in the 100 and 110 hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles. Stanwood’s Robert Hanke qualified first in the 300 hurdles and second in the 110 hurdles. His teammate, Kale Schmidt, won the long jump (22-3) and qualified second in the 400.
The meet concludes Friday.
