MUKILTEO — The Kamiak volleyball team watched standout libero Meghan Hayes leave in the third set with a hand injury, but fought past upset-minded Monroe for a five-set victory on Thursday night in a Wesco 4A match.
Monroe won the fourth set 25-23 following the injury to force a fifth and final set, but Kamiak coach Natalie Bowie said that her team rallied around their injuried teammate.
“Monroe is a good team that played really, really tough tonight, but our girls wanted to win for Meghan Hayes,” she said. “Tiffany Nelson stepped in at the libero spot and did a fantastic job tonight.”
Katie Petterson notched 12 kills, Danica Studioso added 10 and Kat Anderson had nine for Kamiak, while Jessica Clark led Monroe with 24 kills and 23 digs.
Bowie said Hayes will visit the doctor today, but there is no timetable for her return.
