Prep volleyball: Mariner 3, Cascade 0

EVERETT — Mariner swept the Wesco South match by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-23 to sail into the district playoffs as the fourth division qualifier. Senior Nicole Leach had a career-high 16 kills to lead the Marauders (2-6 league, 2-12 overall) on Senior Night while co-captain Nicole Hayes had 13 digs. Fellow senior, Sona Lozano had 10 assists. Chelsea Nelson had 13 kills to lead the Bruins (0-8, 0-14). “It was an awesome match,” Mariner assistant coach Amy Jones said. “Our frontline just dominated.” It is the first time Mariner has made it to the district playoffs in volleyball since the 1980’s, Jones said.
