PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Marysville-Pilchuck improves to 3-0 in Wesco North

MARYSVILLE — Three matches into conference play, the Marysville-Pilchuck volleyball team is right where it wants to be, 3-0 in league.

“Absolutely,” M-P head coach Shelly Johnson said when asked if the Tomahawks (3-0 league, 6-3 overall) saw this great start coming. “We expected to be 3-0.”

M-P’s latest victim was Stanwood by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 24-26, 25-10.

Mikayla LaRosa had 14 kills and Alisha Oden had 11 kills and six blocks to lead the Tomahawks. Junior Makiya Nelson was 31-for-32 from the service line, only missing her last serve of the night. Nelson had five aces and eight kills.

“Mikaya made a huge difference with her serving for us,” Johnson said. “In that fourth game she really came on and got four kills for us.”

Libero Katie Peterson also drew the coach’s praise, racking up 28 digs.

“She’s really solid for us,” Johnson said. “She’s just solid the whole match.”

Sophomore Kaci Jones had 11 kills and Kelsey Kanehen added 10 kills for the Spartans (0-2, 4-4), who were able to come from behind to win the third set before the deciding fourth.

“Stanwood did a good job of coming back, tying it up and going ahead,” Johnson said.

Lake Stevens 3, Cascade 0: At Lake Stevens, Marchelle Bostic had eight kills and 21 assists and Miranda Shultz had eight kills and three aces, helping Lake Stevens (2-1 league, 5-4 overall) past Cascade 25-18, 26-24, 25-16 in the Wesco North contest. Cascade’s (0-3, 0-8) Kaitie Brush had five kills and three blocks and Esther No 10 digs to lead the Bruins.

Monroe 3, Snohomish 0: At Monroe, Megan Birch had 16 kills to lead Monroe to the 25-14, 25-22, 25-17 Wesco North win. Meagan McPhetridge had nine kills and 10 digs and Kendal Munoz added 33 assists for the Bearcats (3-0 league, 8-1 overall). Madeline Fouts had eight kills and eight digs and Karla Nelson had 13 assists and eight digs to lead Snohomish (1-1, 2-5).

Oak Harbor 3, Arlington 2: At Oak Harbor, Oak Harbor (1-2 league, 3-5 overall) defeated Arlington (0-3, 2-7) in Wesco North action by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 25-12 and 15-13. Marisa Sutherland had 11 kills and three blocks, Kristine Bouchard had 10 kills, Kelsey Terrazas-Cooley had 22 digs and three aces and Melany Cone had 23 assists for Oak Harbor. Megan Abdo had 42 assists, Kirstin Wright had 15 digs, Kenzie Jorgenson had 15 kills and Amanda Bottini had 15 digs for Arlington.

Meadowdale 3, Lynnwood 2: At Lynnwood, Meadowdale (3-0 league, 6-2 overall) took the the Wesco South match over Lynnwood (0-3, 5-3) 25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 16-14. Jessica Yi had 23 digs and three kills, Alexa Cannon had 13 kills and four blocks, Lindsey Milner had 13 kills and 24 digs, Megan Nelson had 41 assists and 12 digs and Payton Shrum had 10 kills, four blocks and 10 digs for Meadowdale. For Lynnwood, Laycee Hill had 42 assists and nine digs, Jessika Barlow had kills and 17 digs, Kayla Dumo had 19 digs and Mokun Fajemisin had 20 kills and 11 blocks.

Archbishop Murphy 3, Sultan 0: At Everett, Hannah Kegley had 11 kills, two blocks and three aces; Megan Carlson had seven kills and three blocks; Savannah Fletcher had six kills, four blocks and seven aces, and Kierson Wilfley had 18 digs and four aces in Murphy’s 25-13, 25-12, 25-5 Cascade Conference win. Murphy is now 8-1 in league and overall. Sultan is 0-9, 0-9.

South Whidbey 3, Cedarcrest 0: At Langley, South Whidbey (6-3 league, 6-3 overall) defeated Cedarcrest (2-7, 2-7) in Cascade Conference action by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-20. Alisson Wood had 13 kills and 14 digs, Katie Holt had eight kills, Kelsie Dorpat had 31 assists and Brittany Wood had 16 digs for South Whidbey.

King’s 3, Lakewood 0: At Shoreline, senior Anna Cesari had 25 assists and four aces to lead King’s to a 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 sweep of the Cougars (3-6 in league and overall) in Cascade Conference action. Senior Dionna Kirton registered 11 kills and junior Kaley Kenyon added nine for the unbeaten Knights (9-0, 9-0).

Granite Falls 3, Coupeville 2: At Coupeville, Granite Falls fell behind 0-2, but stormed back to win 24-26, 24-26, 25-7, 25-16, 15-13 in the Cascade Conference match. Katie Christensen was 31-for-31 serving with four aces, Monesa Moore had 15 kills and Hanna Dudder had 31 assists for the Tigers (3-6 leauge, 3-6 overall). Coupeville’s (5-4, 6-4) Julie Swanky had 40 assists.

La Conner 3, Darrington 0: At La Conner, La Conner (5-0 league, 6-1 overall) beat Darrington (5-2, 7-2) in a Northwest 1A/2B League match by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-14. Hailey Wales led the Loggers with seven kills and three blocks.
