SNOHOMISH — A balanced Snohomish offense took care of Mount Vernon 3-1 in a 4A District 1 Tournament semifinal on Tuesday night, as the Panthers had three hitters with double-digit kills.
Kyla Mellick led the way with 19 kills for Snohomish (14-1), but Jessica Brennis added 16 and McKenzie Harris tacked on 12 for the Panthers.
“That’s kind of been our calling card this year,” Snohomish coach Alex Tarin said. “This is the most well-balanced team I’ve coached, and anyone on our team can swing. It make it hard for people to defend us.”
Mariella Vandenkooy recorded 20 kills and six aces for Mount Vernon (7-9), which will play Jackson in an elimination match on Thursday at Mountlake Terrace at 5 p.m.
Snohomish will play Kamiak at Mountlake Terrace at 7 p.m. on Thursday for the district championship and an automatic berth to the state tournament.
