LAKE STEVENS — Brandon Belcher and Brandon Johnson scored crucial early-bout wins to vault the Lake Stevens Vikings to their second consecutive win in a Wesco North dual meet on Friday night at Lake Stevens High School.
The Vikings (2-0 league, 8-1 overall) sent Snohomish (1-1, 6-2) to its first league loss, 52-13.
Belcher scored an escape with two seconds remaining on the clock to earn a 9-8 decision in the 189-pound class.
“It (the 189-pound match) helped ignite the crowd,” Lake Stevens assistant coach Dean Pakinas said.
Immediately following Belcher came Johnson, who was trailing 4-2 entering the third round before pinning his opponent at the 5:32 mark.
“It’s a good way to kind of start the run toward the end of the season with all our league matches,” Pakinas said of the win over Snohomish.
