PREP WRESTLING/SWIMMING ROUNDUP: Everett passes by Arlington in Wesco North standings

EVERETT — The Everett Seagulls wrestling squad vaulted over Arlington in the Wesco North standings with a 54-13 victory Tuesday night at Everett High School, improving Everett to 3-1 in league, 6-1 overall. Arlington fell to 3-2, 5-2.

“We stayed in good position and didn’t make big mistakes,” Everett head coach Brien Elliott said, as the Seagulls lost just four matches. “We didn’t get in trouble, and capitalized at the right moments.”

171-pound Jerry Contreras beat Seth Henderson — the winner of the Edmonds Invitational — with a 5-1 decision.

“That was a big match for us, he has really come on,” Elliott said. “He was really good on his feet and really good at scrambling.”
