QB Tarvaris Jackson progressing, and "Wasn’t as sore today."

Tarvaris Jackson has played in each of Seattle last two games, and started last weekend in Dallas, but he’s still a long ways from 100 percent. He was limited in practice Wednesday because of his pectoral injury, and while he practice fullyxxxx Thursday, it is clear that his injury is going to be an issue for a while.

“I wasn’t as sore today, so I’m looking forward to taking more reps today at practice,” Jackson said before practice. “You still want to be careful. You don’t want to aggravate it to the point where I have to sit out tomorrow. You want to be able to get as much done today and be able to practice again tomorrow and I’ll probably just rest up Saturday.”

This is a different schedule for Jackson, who practiced fully on Wednesday last week, but then was sore enough that he had to sit out Thursday’s practice. As Jackson said, the plan is to practice again Friday, then rest Saturday, but he also admits he isn’t sure how the injury will respond from day to day.

“You don’t really know exactly how you’re going to feel each day,” he said. “It’s kind of got like a mind of its own—sometimes it feels good and I wake up the next day without doing anything and it’s sore. So I just come in every day and try to do what I can each day.”

The challenge this week for Jackson won’t just be playing through the injury, but preparing for one of the league’s most talented and hard-hitting defenses. Despite the challenges he’ll face, Jackson is looking forward to his first start against the Ravens (The Vikings played Baltimore while Jackson was in Minnesota, but he was not the starter).

“It’s going to be fun,” he said. “It’s football, so that’s what you really expect – guys trying to hit you in the mouth, guys trying to bully you. It’s a contact sport and you’re going to have collisions out there – I can promise you that.”

One key for Jackson will be avoiding Raven safety Ed Reed, who has been one of the league’s best defensive playmakers for years.

“He’s still a factor back there, he’s still making plays all over the field and making plays all the time,” Jackson said. “You just have to make sure of where he is at all times because you don’t want to be on his highlight reel. You want to make sure you keep him from making those plays. You want to test him, run from him, but you want to make sure that you know where is and are able to get protection when he’s blitzing – sometimes he sneaks up there and you’ll see a lot of the plays he’s make are on the quarterback in the backfield causing fumbles and stuff like that. We’re going to make sure we keep our eye on him the whole game.”
