Quotes from Seahawks 4th-round picks Terry Poole and Mark Glowinski

Here are transcripts of the teleconferences with the Seahawks’ two latest picks, fourth-rounders Terry Poole and Mark Glowinski:

TERRY POOLE

(On whether he had had contact with the Seahawks prior to today…) “We had some contact. I am big-time excited. It’s a great organization right there. My whole family is excited. I’ve been watching Tom Cable since he was with the Raiders. I grew up a Raider fan, I watched how he coached, and he is a helluva O-Line coach. I’m just ready to put on for the Seahawks, for my city.”

(On where the Seahawks saw him fitting in…) “I’m going to be a versatile player, I’m going to play tackle, guard and center, just play it all.”

(On whether he has experience at all three positions…)“I’ve been practicing each position, I’ve been practicing all of it.”

(Onwhich position he would prefer…)“It really doesn’t matter, honestly. I’m ready to just get it going; get a title. It doesn’t matter where at.”

(On how he would characterize his game…)“I’m an athletic, hard-nosed football player, I would say. Very physical and hard-nosed, that’s what I do. I’m a very athletic and hard-nosed football player. When people are on the ground, I’m still going to hit ‘em. I take pride in being the most physical player on the field.”

(On whether he talked to Tom Cable…) “Yes, sir.”

(On what he discussed with Tom Cable…)“Just go in there and work.”

(On whether he was more of a basketball player growing up…) “When I grew up, I grew up as a basketball player. I loved basketball at first. I always played that as my first sport, and football was my secondary sport. When I got to junior college, I started playing… In high school, I played football, too, but I went to JuCo to play football and basketball and they told me that I had a great future in football, and so I stuck with football. I was always a physical player in high school as well. In high school I was known as a nasty player, and I just kept going with it, man.”

(On his last year of competitive basketball…) “End of my junior year [in high school]”

(On whether he has ever been to Seattle…) “I did a visit over there. It’s beautiful.”

(On where he is calling from today…) “I am in the Bay Area; Seaside, California.”

(On whether he knows Eric Pinkins…) “Yeah, that’s my boy right there, big time. He’s calling, he keeps blowing me up right now, and I haven’t been able to talk to him. He keeps calling me right now. He’s ecstatic for me, and we’re just ready to get it going.

(On whether he knows Mason Foster…) “That’s my boy, too, yep.”

(On what Foster has told him about the NFL…) “He says you have to compete every day. It’s for sure a business. Every time you get a chance up there, take advantage of it, and just grind. You have to take what’s yours.”

(On the blocking schemes at San Diego State…) “We did zone-blocking, power scheme. We ran the ball a lot, we were a hard-nosed football team, most definitely. We ran the ball a ton.”

(On the chance to block for Marshawn Lynch …) “I’m ecstatic, man. He’s a beast, straight up. That’s who I want to block for, I want to block for somebody like that who’s going to go hard every time and go in with their heart.”

(On whether he is better as a run blocker or pass blocker…) “Actually, I feel like I’m both. I get physical pass-blocking, too. If I pancake them, I’m going to hit them down on the ground again, like it’s a run block. I’m hoping I’m pretty good at it.”

(On where he watched the Super Bowl from in February… ) “I was in Arizona, I train out there in Arizona, so I watched it out there.”

(On who he was rooting for… ) “Seattle, no doubt. My boy plays for them, Eric Pinkins. And Marshawn Lynch is from the Bay, so we have to represent.”

MARK GLOWINSKI

(On where he was when the Seahawks called…) “I’m out with my girlfriend and my family right now, back at home in (Moscow) Pennsylvania.”

(On whether he was surprised to be taken by the Seahawks…)“I went on a visit, and they were really impressed with me. I just had a gut feeling toward the end of that round, the way it was going, that they were going to pick me up, and I’m excited right now. I just can’t explain it.”

(Onhow much contact he had with Tom Cable…)“I talked to him a little bit here and there. Most of the time I talked to him was when I took my visit. I got to get to know him and his philosophy. That’s the stage you get to know somebody.”

(On his style of play…)“I never stop. I like to compete. I don’t let anything get in my head. If one play goes bad, or anything like that, I’m just looking forward to the next play so I can get after it and compete.”

(On what he’s been told about his potential role in Seattle…) “They’re talking about inside; at center or guard. I’m ready to come in and compete my ass off, and I’m going to get better, and I’m just happy to be in the Seattle organization.”

(On how much he has played center…)“I’ve only done it in practice. I have no game film or anything like that. I’ve done it in practice, especially in my senior year. Anything I could do, I was trying to get in there.”

(On how much zone blocking has he done…) “Most of it was when I was at WVU. We did a lot of inside and outside zone, and stuff like that. It was almost every other play we had a zone play, if it wasn’t a pass.”

(On his impression of the city and the organization and the area…) “From what I saw, I loved the area. It was one of the favorite places I went to, honestly. It seemed like everybody wanted to get to know me. They weren’t hesitant at all.”

(On his impression of Tom Cable…) “I liked how he is. He seemed more into the guy, and making sure you’re staying healthy, and stuff like that. It wasn’t just about business, he talked about it not being business, but about being part of your life, and doing it to the best of your ability.”

(On taking the reps at center in practice…) “That was more for preparation for me. I just wanted to be prepared for anything. We had three centers, so it was for me to prepare myself.”

(On his birthday tomorrow…) “I’m going to be 23 tomorrow. This will be the best birthday present of my life.”

(On blocking for Marshawn Lynch…) “I’m excited as hell. There’s no other way to put it. I like that style, and I like the hard-nosed style, so I think it will be perfect for me.”

(On whether he will compete to be the toughest guy on the field…) “We’re going to compete. We’re going to go back and forth.”
