QUOTES: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on win over Colts

Carroll gives his opening thoughts and provides injury updates on Cliff Avril, Chris Carson, others.

The Seattle Seahawks used a second-half surge to defeat the Indianapolis Colts 46-18 Sunday night at CenturyLink Field. Here’s Seahawks coach Pete Carroll’s opening thoughts following the game:

“Wow, what a night of football. Really had a blast playing Seahawk football, seeing our guys running around and getting going and start firing on all cylinders and really get the feel of what it’s like to play here in front of the crowd, particularly for the young guys who haven’t been here and haven’t seen that, it’s their first time they get to feel it. So it was awesome, an awesome turnaround. Both sides of the ball played well, special teams was very solid. It was a terrific night, it just took us a while to get there.

“We talked about it this week, that this is an opportunity to take the next step and get this thing moving, and at halftime you couldn’t tell, and 15-10 you couldn’t tell. We came out of there and the offense went right down the field and the defense just took off just he way we love it to go. So excited about that, that’s that game and we’ll see what happens.

”A lot of guys did good stuff tonight. I thought Russ [Wilson] was on it. Even though there were a couple picks there, those were balls that could have been otherwise, but he did a nice job. Running game, 194 yards, that’s great effort by everybody who contributed to that. Just a lot of really good solid play and I thought we worked together really well. We did the same thing we did last week in the second half, it was pretty similar. I really like the style of it, keeping the feel of running game, that’s what’s so important about this night.

“Defensively we continue to do really good stuff, but it was great to see the pass rush come alive and really get after it. After a while it was just who was going to hit him next and something was going to happen. Really fired up to see that, these guys have been working hard to get that done, and it was a number of guys, everybody was contributing, so I thought it was a really nice job. It was good to see Shaq [Griffin], had to play a lot tonight with Jeremy [Lane] going out with the groin and I thought he did a great job. Unfortunately they caught the touchdown pass on him, but you all saw it he was right on it and you don’t get any better catch and great throw, but he continues to do a really nice job for us.”

Carroll also had some injury updates of players who didn’t finish the game:

Defensive end Cliff Avril: “He hurt his neck, we’ll have to figure out what that’s all about. He feels fine now, but we have to make sure he’s OK.”

Cornerback Jeremy Lane: “He has the groin.”

Running back Chris Carson: “His injury was pretty significant. We had a couple different reports here, but we now know he hurt his ankle pretty significantly, we’ll see what that means when we get all the MRIs and stuff done.”

Tackle Rees Odhiambo: “He got hit in the chest and just had some trouble breathing. We’ll take care of him tonight, make sure that he’s OK and do all the precautionary stuff. He’ll be in the hospital tonight just to be checked out.”
