Ramirez, Mozlowski advance to state

MOUNT VERNON — Shorecrest’s Juan Ramirez continued his domination into the district tournament.

Ramirez beat Glacier Peak’s Dylan Mozlowski 6-2, 6-1 to win the 3A District 1 singles title and advance to next spring’s state tournament.

Mozlowski beat Meadowdale’s Brian Nguyen 6-2, 6-2 in the consolation final to punch his ticket to state as well.

After losing his first match of the tournament, Nguyen reeled off three straight wins, including a 6-4, 6-4 victory over teammate Nick Ekern in the first match Wednesday afternoon to advance to the consolation final and one step from state.

The doubles team of Hunter Nelson and Miles Jamieson, from Shorewood, beat Meadowdale’s Evan DeVries and Andrew Fijalka 6-4, 6-4 in the doubles final to take the title and advance to state. DeVries and Fijalka then lost a heartbreaker to Ferndale’s Tanner Hansen and Erik Arntsen with a spot at state at stake in the doubles consolation final. DeVries and Fijalka beat Hansen and Arntsen 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Shorewood won the team title with 16 points. Meadowdale (11), Shorecrest (8) and Glacier Peak (7) rounded out the top four team finishers.

Consolation—Brian Nguyen (Mead) def. Nick Ekern (Mead), 6-4, 6-4; Justin Oh (Shw) def. Anthony Shanander (MV) 6-1, 6-1; Nguyen def. Oh 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.

Consolation final— Mozlowski def. Nguyen 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles

Final—Hunter Nelson-Miles Jamieson (Shw) def. Evan DeVries-Andrew Fijalka 6-4, 6-4

Consolation—Tanner Hansen-Erik Arntsen (Fern) def. Patrick Luangrath-Jordan Hill (GP) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; Trevor Cronin-Isaac Brengelmann (Shw) def. Connor Garrison-Calvin Rutherford 6-0, 6-3; Hansen-Arntsen def. Cronin-Brengelmann 6-2, 6-1.

Consolation final—Hansen-Arntsen def. DeVries-Fijalka 7-5, 6-4.
