SURPRISE, Ariz. — Texas Rangers left-hander Derek Holland sprained his right knee during agility drills in a light rain Saturday.
“I’m not too worried about it,” said Holland, who was shuffling from side to side in a drill when he felt pain in the knee. “I think it’s something minor. It could have been worse.”
Holland walked off the field under his own power and was examined in the clubhouse by Rangers team doctor Keith Meister. He will be evaluated on Sunday and an MRI will be performed Monday if necessary.
“It’s going to take a couple of days to recover,” Holland said. “It’s something I’m not used to so I’m going to take it slow.”
The 23-year-old was 8-13 with a 6.02 ERA in 33 appearances and 21 starts as a rookie for the Rangers last season.
