EVERETT — The Red Deer Rebels had a difficult time getting to Everett this week. Once they arrived, though, they took care of business.

The Rebels rallied to tie the game in the third period, then won a shootout to beat the Silvertips 2-1 in Western Hockey League action Thursday in front of 3,665 fans at Angel of the Winds Arena.

The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed when inclement weather and road closures delayed the Rebels’ arrival.

Red Deer beat Everett 2-1 in the shootout, with Jeff de Wit and Alexander Alexeyev scoring for the Rebels. Max Patterson scored for Everett.

The first three periods and overtime were dominated by the goaltenders. Ethan Anders of Red Deer and Dustin Wolf of Everett each stopped 37 shots in regulation

After a scoreless first period, Everett forward Robbie Holmes opened the scoring with a goal at 1:40 of the second period. It was Holmes’ first goal in 12 games as a Silvertip. He was acquired in a trade with Regina on Jan. 10.

Martin Fasko-Rudas and Patterson assisted on Holmes’ goal.

Red Deer tied the contest at the 11:26 mark of the third period on a goal by Brandon Hagel.
