BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox traded left-hander Roenis Elias to the Seattle Mariners on Monday for future considerations.
Elias, who will report to Triple-A Tacoma, was 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA at Triple-A Pawtucket this season. In 55 major-league appearances, he is 15-21 with a 4.20 ERA.
The 29-year-old native of Cuba was originally signed by Seattle as a free agent in 2011. He was sent to Boston four years later in a trade with Carson Smith for Wade Miley and Jonathan Aro.
Elias spent the majority of the 2017 season on the disabled list. He made his only major-league appearance of the season on Sept. 4 vs. Toronto, striking out one and walking one in 1/3 of an inning.
Elias made his major-league debut with the Mariners on April 3, 2014, at Oakland and went on to compile a 10-12 record with a 3.85 ERA in 29 starts in his rookie season. He became just the fifth left-handed rookie in club history to win 10 games
The Red Sox will receive a yet-undetermined player or cash.
