Redskins 23, Seahawks 17, quick recap

Pete Carroll likes to say it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, and unfortunately for him, the Seahawks finished pretty darn poorly on Sunday, blowing a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter to fall 23-17 to a Redskins team that had lost six in a row prior to Sunday.

Here’s a quick look back some key play, players and more from the loss

Player of the game

Redskins rookie RB Roy Helu became just the second back this season to rush for more than 100 yards against Seattle, joining Dallas’s DeMarco Murray. Helu carried 23 times for 108 yards and caught seven passes for 54 more. His 28-yard touchdown run, which featured him hurdling CB Roy Lewis, helped spark Washington’s comeback.

Play of the game

Facing third-and-19 and a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter, Rex Ryan saw a matchup he liked with Speedy receiver Anthony Armstrong matched up on Brandon Browner. And on a down and distance when a team should never get beat, Browner got beat, and despite being flagged for pass interference, he still wasn’t able to keep Armstrong from making the catch.

“We were playing in a situation where the call comes in to tell them to play off because they’re going to throw it deep, and make sure you stay on top,” Carroll said. ” We practice it all the time. Brandon just kind of lost track of the guy. When he stepped way up into the pocket, I think he was watching in the backfield and lost connection with him, and, when the ball is flying, he turned to find him, and all hell broke loose; he’s grabbing and doing anything he can to try to get out of that situation. That’s something he’ll grow from. It’s really not a very difficult situation, it’s just something you just have to do, and he didn’t do it right.”

Key stat

0—first downs gained by the Seahawks on their final four possession. They committed three penalties, gave up two sacks, and turned the ball over, but never could get another first down following the touchdown pass from Tarvaris Jackson to Golden Tate that gave them a 10-point lead.

Quotable

“I’m just very disappointed right now. I’m kind of at a loss for words right now. I feel sick. We had the game and for us to lose it like that is very disappointing.”—QB Tarvaris Jackson

Injury update

Receiver Sidney Rice left with a head injury, and while the severity is not yet known, there’s a good chance, if he has a concussion, that Rice will miss Seattle’s next game seeing as it’s only four days away.

Several other players were banged up, and again, the severity is not known: WR Mike Williams (shoulder), LB David Hawthorne (knee), LB Leroy Hill (foot), LB David Vobora (shoulder) and WR Doug Baldwin (shoulder).

The Seahawks are quiet tomorrow, with no usual Monday press conference, so it will be until Wednesday before we get an update on injuries.
