REFLECTIONS: Everett Silvertips earn statement win at Prince George

The Game

This was a statement win by the Silvertips. To go into an unbeaten team’s building and pitch a shutout shows what Everett is capable of when it is playing its best, and clearly the Tips were at their best Tuesday.

Goaltender Carter Hart wasn’t tested often, but he was flawless when he was as he saved all 19 Prince George shots for his first shutout of the season and the 11th of his career. The Tips managed to limit the Cougars’ chances and outshot the hosts 27-19.

Dominic Zwerger scored a goal in his third straight game and now has points in four straight. That’s an encouraging sign for the overage Austrian who was acquired to boost offensive production. Sean Richards had a goal and an assist, and nearly scored another time, only to be stymied by an outstanding save by PG netminder Ty Edmonds.

Of concern was the 0-for-6 showing on the power play, but that didn’t matter Tuesday. The Tips have also been much improved on the penalty kill so far this year in the small sample size available, and they killed both of PG’s chances on Tuesday.

Note: Orrin Centazzo made his WHL debut as the 2000-born forward skated on the fourth line with Riley Sutter and Bryce Kindopp.

Also of note: Defenseman Mackenzie Dwyer was a (presumably) healthy scratch for the first time since coming back from his ACL surgery. I don’t know if there is any reason to read into that, but we’ll continue to pay attention. Montana Onyebuchi and Wyatte Wylie formed Everett’s third pairing.

The Turning Point

Zwerger’s goal pushed Everett’s lead to 3-0 in the second period.

Three Stars

1. Everett F Devon Skoleski: The second-line center scored the game’s first goal and was plus-one for the night.

2. Everett G Carter Hart: The Philadelphia Flyers second rounder recorded 19 saves for his first shutout of the season and 11th of his career in his 100th WHL game.

3. Prince George F Colby McAuley: McAuley was minus-one for the game.

Honorable mention: Everett F Sean Richards (one goal, one assist, plus-two).
