REFLECTIONS: Juulsen, Dewar help Everett Silvertips keep winning

The Game

The Everett Silvertips eked out a very Tips-like win Saturday as they ensured themselves a point by forcing overtime and won it on Connor Dewar’s first goal of the season less than a minute into the extra time to beat Victoria 2-1.

The Tips were outshot 8-5 in the opening period and fell behind 1-0. But from that point on Everett held a 37-19 shot advantage, something head coach Kevin Constantine attributed to Victoria playing its fourth game in five nights. Constantine also chose not to classify the first period as a “slow start” for the Tips, noting that the defending Scotty Munro champion Royals are a talented, well-coached team.

Both goaltenders were impressive. Victoria’s Griffen Outhouse had 40 saves while Everett’s Carter Hart was his usual model of consistency with 26 saves on 27 shots.

Everett defensemen Noah Juulsen and Kevin Davis had solid games. Juulsen scored the first goal thanks to a sublime pass from Patrick Bajkov in the second period, while Davis logged a lot of minutes and was on the ice when Dewar tallied the game-winner.

The Turning Point

Hart turned in a brilliant sequence with Everett on the penalty kill early in the third period with several saves to keep the game tied at 1-1 and force overtime.

Three Stars

1. Everett G Carter Hart: Hart had 26 saves on 27 shots to earn his ninth win of the year.

2. Victoria G Griffen Outhouse: Outhouse had 40 saves on 42 shots in a tough loss.

3. Everett D Noah Juulsen: The captain scored Everett’s first goal and was plus-one on the night.

Honorable mention: Everett F Connor Dewar (game-winning goal in OT), Everett F Dominic Zwerger (assisted game-winner, plus-one), Victoria F Tyler Soy (unassisted goal).
