Regional racing roundup for Aug. 16

YAKIMA, Wash. — J.C. Wofford made a splash in his first start in the Limited Late Model Racing Series.

Wofford, a hometown racer, qualified fastest and then won the feature race and a trophy dash on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Yakima Speedway.

After turning a lap of 20.065 seconds in qualifying, Wofford to the checkered flag in the trophy dash after passing Bob Hayes on the final lap. He got around Tim McDougald for the lead on lap 6 en route to victory in the LLMRS feature.

John Boyatt was second in the main, McDougald finished third, Jeff Mullins was fourth, Hayes came in fifth, Rick Gerard finished sixth, Vic Beard came in seventh, Brent Townley was eighth, and Greg Cortaberria finished ninth.

Boyatt won the heat race, and Gerard won the other trophy dash.

ELMA, Wash. — J.J. Hickle of Quilcene, Wash., and Josh Muller of Montesano, Wash., both took advantage of their pole positions and both led from start to finish to win their respective races on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Hickle turned the trick in the 360 Sprints 30-lap feature race and Muller followed suit in the Modifieds 25-lap main event.

Earlier in the evening, Zack Simpson of Hoquiam, Wash., and Ty Baker of Olympia, Wash., both came from behind to capture the checkered flag. Simpson in the 25-lap Hobby Stocks A Main and Baker in the Hornets” 15-lap feature.

ROCHESTER, Wash. — Chad Hinkle, Brian Wilson, Mike Easley and Doug McLees were the winners on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Sound Sound Speedway.

Hinkle passed polesitter Devin Eierman on lap 6 of the 50-lap Quality Car Care Limited Late Models main, en route to his first victory in the division. Rounding out the top five were runner up Dirk Stephens, Ron Wolf, Tom Sweatman, and Arlyn Long. JJ Hamilton turned the fastest lap at 13.854 seconds and Wolf won the trophy dash.

Wilson won his second Pure Stock 30-lap main event of the season, passing Leon Collins for the lead on lap 22. Collins was second, Scott Johnson finished third, Kenny Erickson was fourth and Jake Haider rounded out the top five. Wilson also set quick time qualifying with a lap of 16.740. Erickson won the trophy dash, and Matt Duffey and Jeff Boheler won the heat races.

En route to his first victory of the season, Easley led all but the first lap of the 25-lap Top Notch Trailer Street Stock feature. Marshall Hallett was second, Bobby Micielli finished third, Brad Borton was fourth and Cody Erskine rounded out the top five. Hallett set quick time in qualifying with a lap of 15.436 seconds. Micielli won the trophy dash and the heat race.

McLees led all 25-laps of the WESCO Sprint car feature. Rounding out the top five were runner up Rich Leighty, Mike Adkins, Amanda Walker, and Kelly Conner. McLees also set fast time with a lap of 13.367 seconds and Leighty won the trophy dash and heat race.
