Relay win helps Everett top Mariner

MILL CREEK – The Everett High School girls swim team won the 200-meter freestyle relay to clinch a 90-79 victory over Mariner in a non-conference meet Tuesday at the Mill Creek Swim Club.

The team of Martha Pohl, Leah Safstrom, Jesseca Griffin and Katie Wilner won with a time of 2 minutes, 1.35 seconds. Pohl led off the 200 freestyle relay and won the 100 breaststroke for Everett (1-0 overall).

“We trailed Mariner for most of the meet but were able to pull out the win with our depth late,” Everett coach Graham Reichmann said. “It was tough, the Allen sisters swam very well for Mariner.”

Rebecca Anderson and Jaime Allen both were two event winners for Mariner (0-1). Anderson won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Jaime Allen won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. Her sister Kelsey won the 50 free.

Kamiak 118, Lake Stevens 68: Rikka Brunner highlighted Kamiak’s non-league victory by winning the 100-meter butterfly in a state-meet qualifying time of 1:01.84. Kelly Conrad of Lake Stevens won the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and swam on two first-place relay teams.

Shorewood 112, Marysville-Pilchuck 73: Leanne Dull won the 200- and 500-meter freestyle races and helped lead Shorewood’s 400 freestyle relay team to victory in the Thunderbirds non-conference win.

Mountlake Terrace 86, Stanwood 82: Megan Zalud led Mountlake Terrace to the non-conference victory with wins in the 200- and 100-meter freestyle races. Zalud also helped lead the 400 freestyle relay team to victory. Hannah Green led Stanwood with a victory in the 50 freestyle.
