Mariners CEO Howard Lincoln walked away from the practice field today and made a gesture seen often recently as the team waited for Ken Griffey Jr. to decide where he will play.
Lincoln shrugged his shoulders.
Lincoln and the Mariners waited through another day for a decision from Griffey on whether he’ll play for them or the Atlanta Braves. Mariners president Chuck Armstrong was in contact with Griffey, a longtime friend, throughout the day but hadn’t heard of a decision.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution posted an online story this evening saying Braves officials were becoming concerned that Griffey might sign with the Mariners. The story said Griffey’s agent, Brian Goldberg, had “almost no communication” with Braves GM Frank Wren since early Tuesday when the Journal-Constitution first reported that Griffey would sign with the Braves.
Within an hour after that story broke Griffey told MLB.com that he hadn’t decided.
