News out of Tennessee this morning is that Matt Hasselbeck has agreed to a deal with the Tennessee Titans.
The news comes a day after the Seahawks agreed to terms with Tarvaris Jackson, signaling the end of Hasselbeck’s tenure in Seattle.
In Tennessee, Hasselbeck will mentor Jake Locker, the No. 8 pick in this year’s draft, and perhaps no one comes out a bigger winner in this deal than the former UW quarterback. As talented as Locker is, he would have almost certainly struggled if asked to start right away, particularly with no minicamps or OTAs this offseason. Now the pressure will be off of Locker to play this season, and he’ll be mentored by one of the game’s classiest pros. It will also help that the two quarterbacks no each other having spent some time working out together in Seattle this spring and summer.
Hasselbeck will certainly be missed by fans and his former teammates (and I’ll go ahead and say it, the media will miss him too–he was a great interview) but will be happy to see him land in a good situation. They’ll also be glad he didn’t end up in the NFC West.
