Darrell Bevell will be the Seahawks next offensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s John Clayton. The team has not yet announced the move.
Bevell replaces Jeremy Bates, who was fired earlier in the week. Pete Carroll confirmed Wednesday during his year-end press conference that Bevell was in in the building to interview for the job.
Bevell has been the offensive coordinator in Minnesota since 2006, but was not retained by new head coach Leslie Frazier.
Prior to coaching in Minnesota, Bevell was an assistant in Green Bay, meaning Seahawks general manager John Schneider is familiar with him. Matt Hasselbeck’s final year in Green Bay was Bevell’s first year with the Packers, so if Hasselbeck does re-sign, there will be some familiarity between those two. Bevell comes from the same West Coach offense coaching tree as Mike Holmgren (Bevell worked under Brad Childress, who worked under Andy Reid, who worked under Holmgren) so if Hasselbeck does re-sign, he should be plenty familiar with the offense.
UPDATE
The Seahawks have confirmed that they have agreed to terms with Bevell.
