If an ESPN report is true, the Seahawks’ open roster spot will go to veteran wide receiver Billy McMullen, who has spent most of his career playing in the West Coast offense.
McMullen played under former Mike Holmgren assistant Andy Reid in Philadelphia, under former Reid assistant Brad Childress in Minnesota, and spent the most recent training camp with Jim Zorn’s Washington Redskins.
According to the ESPN report (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3578575), McMullen was one of six receivers brought in for a tryout Tuesday.
The Seahawks have an open roster spot after cutting three players (http://tinyurl.com/6m4a2l) and placing a fourth, receiver Nate Burleson, on injured reserve. Two of the available roster spots went to suspended players Rocky Bernard and Jordan Babineaux, while a third went to punter Jon Ryan.
McMullen, 28, has played in 45 NFL games but has never started. He has 45 career receptions, more than half of which — 23 — came wit the Vikings last season.
McMullen, Courtney Taylor and Logan Payne are the only healthy receivers on Seattle’s roster after Burleson was placed on IR and Jordan Kent was released.
