Results from first round of NHRA qualifying

KENT – After the first of two rounds of qualifying on Friday, Bob Tasca III, Larry Dixon and Mike Edwards led their respective categories in the NHRA Full Throttle Series Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways.

Tasca topped the 14-car Funny Car field with a pass of 4.255 seconds at 285.23 mph on the 1,000 yard track. Tony Pedregon (4.271, 273.44) was second, Matt Hagan (4.312, 276.18) third, Robert Hight (4.320, 276.75) was fourth and co-points leader Ashley Force Hood (4.320, 249.26) rounded out the top five.

Ron Capps, who is tied with Force Hood atop the Funny Car points list, was 12th after a run of 7.038 at 90.24 mph.

In Top Fuel, Dixon made a pass of 3.985 at 299.26 to lead the 15-cars that made qualifying runs. Spencer Massey (3.987, 295.34) was second, Cory McClenathan (4Spencer Massey (3.987, 295.34) was second, Cory McClenathan (4.018, 289.57) was third, current points leader Antron Brown (4.031, 289.88) was fourth and Clay Millican (4.040, 291.45) was fifth.

Sixteen drivers made qualifying runs in Pro Stock, with Edwards’ pass of 6.606 at 208.94 topping the chart. He was followed by Allen Johnson (6.636, 208.94), Greg Anderson (6.638, 208.71), Jason Line (6.652, 208.36) and Ron Krisher (6.683, 207.34).

Current Pro Stock points leader Jeg Coughlin, who has already secured a spot in the Countdown to 1 playoff, was 14th after shutting down early during a pass of 12.987 seconds at 65.16 mph.

Several Snohomish County drag racers also made passes on Friday, either for qualifying or practice based on the category.

Despite making a slower pass on his second run, Ray Hadford of Everett held at 11th after both rounds of qualifying for Competition Eliminator. His first run was 6.998 seconds at 188.89 mph and his second was 7.096/187.76.

Rodney Stults of Marysville was 14th after two rounds of qualifying in the Super Stock category. Steve Cozakos of Marysville dropped two spots after the first round to finish 5th after both rounds of qualifying in the Stock Eliminator category.

In the Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street categories, drivers – including Lloyd Flatum of Marysville, and Chris and Nikki Cannon of Bothell — made runs during two practice sessions to gather data that will be used to dial-in their cars for Saturday’s eliminations.
