They might have come in just a little green last spring, but by season’s end they got within three victories of the gold.
In their first season of select soccer, the Snohomish United Revolution girls U-11 team advanced to the quarterfinals of the state cup tournament before falling 2-1 to Gig Harbor SC on Feb. 9.
After trailing at halftime, the Revolution tied the score when Lindsey Bos scored with an assist from Melissa Von DerHofen. Gig Harbor SC scored again to advance to the semifinals.
The Revolution finished the season 31-8-2. They outscored opponents 110-42 and posted 20 shutouts. Season highlights included earning the District 1 Red title and also winning three tournament championships.
To reach the quarterfinals the Revolution downed Eastside Blue of Redmond 2-1 in a penalty kick shootout.
“The girls really came together as a group and had a lot fun and just played good soccer,” said Ricardo Rivera, who shared coaching duties with Tom Carlson.
“They were a very enjoyable group of kids.”
Other team members are Karin and Kelly D’ettorre, Sarah Fortune, Karly Lampmen, Lindsey Nolan, Molly Thunder, Alanna Feltner, Danie Birklid, Rachel Harvey, Kerri Hoheisel, Desiree Nickell, Samantha Pugh, Becky Bradlee and Bianca Rowland.
Gymnastics
Elite fare well in tough field: The Cascade Elite girls hosted the 6th Annual Cascadian Team Challenge at their Mountlake Terrace training facility and earned three team championships in competition that concluded Feb. 10.
The Level 10 girls took the title with a combined score of 112.475, led by Kaisha Horn’s first place in the all-around (37.4). The Level 6 and Level 4 units also took first with scores of 143.2 and 149.0, respectively.
Makayla Everroad led Level 4 by taking the all-around (37.2). Katrina Seidel posted a 37.15 to claim the Level 7 all-around.
For the second straight year the Elite won the Compulsory Team Challenge, beating 12 top teams from Alaska, Oregon and Washington.
