Richards cleared to play, latest rankings

Stealth goaltender Tyler Richards was medically cleared to play earlier Wednesday, Stealth head coach Chris Hall said during a weekly conference call with league coaches this morning.

Richards, who has missed the season’s first three games for the 1-2 Stealth, could see his first time in goal on Saturday as the Stealth take on the Calgary Roughnecks at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

It won’t be clear until game-time whether Richards will see considerable time or be used just to replace Matt Roik if Roik struggles like he did against Minnesota in last week’s 16-8 home loss.

Richards suffered an injury during the last weekend of training camp (Dec.19) and had been “week-to-week” but was never ready come game time. If he can return well from this injury, it could be a big boost for a Stealth team that is struggling to find its way early in the season.

ILindoor.com released their latest NLL power rankings earlier this week and the Washington Stealth dropped from the top of the pile to the middle-rungs at No. 5.

The Massey Ratings are more statistically (taking strength of schedule, opponent’s strength of schedule, etc., into account) based than ILindoor.com, so here are those ratings:

2. Rochester (1.357)
3. Minnesota (.907)
4. Boston (-.261)
5. Calgary (-.294)
6. Colorado (-.385)
7. Washington (-.435)
8. Buffalo (-.589)
9. Edmonton (-1.003)
10. Philadelphia (-1.267)

And the average of the two rankings:

Massey also ranks Washington’s defense as the league’s worst, its offense as fourth-best and its scheduled played thus far as the sixth-hardest (Rochester’s was No. 1).
