The local June 1 river fishing opener offered reasonably fair action, according to reports, but a combination of hot weather over the weekend, followed by heavy rain, has generally blown streams out of fishing shape. If anything comes back in prior to this weekend, there should be a few steelhead and/or chinook available.
Mike Chamberlain at Ted’s Sport Center in Lynnwood said anglers took perhaps a dozen kings off the Wallace Flats on the Skykomish and that the Cable Hole below Reiter Ponds was fair for a mix of late winter and early summer steelhead.
It was roughly the same picture on the upper Skagit, with a few chinook caught between Rockport and the mouth of the Cascade, and a mix of kings and steelhead in the lower Cascade, mostly on bait/float rigs.
