The Silvertips capped their Eastern Conference road swing with a 4-1 win over Swift Current on Saturday. Everett ends the trip with a 4-2 record, which I would consider a very successful trip.
Here are some takeaways:
What is Everett’s potential at full strength? Connor Dewar exploded for two goals and two assists, a season-high four points, in his first game back from his four-game suspension. You could call it a warm welcome back for the Silvertips captain.
Everett went 3-1 without Dewar, and obviously could have used the Silvertips’ leading scorer in the lone loss at Prince Albert. This road trip unveiled some encouraging aspects of Everett’s 2018-19 squad, but there is still a learning period, as Everett’s wins against Saskatoon and came without its captain. I would say the upcoming road contest at Spokane on Nov. 3 would be a nice barometer for how Everett stacks up with some of the better teams in the Western Conference.
An encouraging road trip: Like I said, I would have to think the Silvertips are pretty content with the result of their Eastern Conference road trip. Everett fell to two very talented teams in Brandon and Prince Albert and took care of business against rebuilding teams like Swift Current and Regina. The most encouraging aspects came from handling Saskatoon and Moose Jaw like they did, two teams that seem destined for the playoffs.
Up next
Everett is back home at Angel of the Winds Arena on Friday for a tilt with Tri-City, then travel across Interstate-90 to Spokane for a showdown with the Chiefs in Spokane on Saturday.
