Ryan goal lifts Archbishop Murphy to win

SULTAN — The score went back and forth for the first 59 minutes before a shot by Archbishop Murphy’s Kyle Ryan dipped over Sultan goalkeeper Matthew Becker’s head, hit the crossbar and fell straight into the goal to break a 2-2 tie.

“It was a brilliant shot,” Sultan head coach Dr. Mark Raney said.

Elijah Wright scored in the 77th minute to ensure the Wildcats’ 4-2 Cascade Conference win on Tuesday at Sultan High School.

Ian Houts scored first for Archbishop Murphy (4-3 in league, 5-3 overall) in the 12th minute but Clint Simon answered with a goal, assisted by Nathan Barnhill, in the 20th to keep Sultan (4-3, 5-4) in the game. Alexis Magana took the lead for the Wildcats seven minutes later and Sultan’s Jeffers Haile tied the game at 2-2 at the half.

“It was a very clean game,” Raney said. “Both sides played well and the ball moved around the field nicely.

Lakewood 4, South Whidbey 0: At Langley, Evander Ochoa scored two goals to help break open a 1-0 game at halftime and lead Lakewood to a Cascade Conference win against South Whidbey.

Cedarcrest 6, Coupeville 0: At Duvall, goalie Trevor Debrecht recorded a shutout and Cedarcrest won the Cascade Conference game. R.J. Sorensen scored three goals and Evan Fassler added two for the Redwolves.

King’s 5, Granite Falls 0: At Granite Falls, King’s scored three goals in the first half of its Cascade Conference win against Granite Falls Monday. Trevor Bartels had one goal and two assists for King’s.

Lake Stevens 1, Stanwood 0: At Lake Stevens, the game’s only goal was a Stanwood own goal in the 19th minute of the Wesco North contest.

Monroe 2, Everett 1: At Monroe, Ian Wilkinson of Monroe broke a 1-1 tie in the 65th minute of the Wesco North game, stealing the ball when an Everett defender tried to clear it, then shooting from the top right corner of the 18-yard box to sneak it inside the far post.

Shorewood 4, Mariner 2: At Shoreline, Sam Olson scored two goals and dished out an assist to lead Shorewood to a Wesco South win. Alex Bresnan scored a goal in the 74th minute to seal it, two minutes after Mariner had pulled to within a goal.

Shorecrest 5, Kamiak 1: At Mukilteo, Jeremy Novack and Josh Rudnick each scored two goals to boost Shorecrest to a Wesco South win. Shorecrest led 4-0 at halftime.
