The Tips are going to have to adapt to playing without their captain for a while.
Defenseman Ryan Murray was diagnosed with a sprained ankle from the hit he took early in Wednesday’s game against Brandon. The good news for Everett is that it wasn’t anything worse. The bad news is Murray is likely to miss around five weeks, meaning he’ll be unavailable for the team’s upcoming road trip through the Central Division. Losing Murray is a big blow. We’ll see how the team responds.
At least the other injury news was more positive. Leading scorer Josh Birkholz, who didn’t finish Wednesday’s game because of a back issue, practiced today and is ready to go. Forward Ryan Harrison, who limped off Wednesday after blocking a shot, didn’t practice today but might be able to play Friday.
Friday’s game is Everett’s annual Pink the Rink game to help raise funds and awareness of breast cancer. The photo above is of the jerseys the Tips are wearing for the game. The pink gradually fades to white from the top to bottom. Also, goaltender Kent Simpson will be wearing a mask specially painted for the occasion (look for a story on that in Friday’s paper). The jerseys and mask are being auctioned off, with the proceeds going to Providence Comprehensive Breast Center.
