S. Whidbey in semifinal round at 2A tournament

Herald staff

WENATCHEE – South Whidbey beat Ephrata and Ridgefield Friday, putting it in the semifinal round of the Class 2A fastpitch softball state tournament.

Christie Robinson was the winning pitcher in both games. She threw a no-hitter against Ridgefield in the quarterfinals.

An error by Robinson allowed Ridgefield’s only baserunner, as the freshman pitcher conceded no hits or walks. She recorded eight strikeouts.

South Whidbey’s offense was also led by Robinson in the second game. She was 3-for-3, including an RBI.

Against Ephrata Robinson also recorded the win, but she was relieved in the fourth inning by Ashley Lopez. Carolann Lubach supplied the offensive power, batting 2-for-2 and scoring two runs.

The quarterfinal victory against Ridgefield avenged last year’s first-round loss to the eventual state runnersup. South Whidbey will play East Valley of Yakima in today’s semifinals.
