Saturday’s National Lacrosse League West Division final will be played at Seattle’s KeyArena near the Space Needle instead of Comcast Arena.
A previous event (Sesame Street on Ice, I think) had the Arena booked far in advance, forcing the Stealth to travel down south for the game.
It should be interesting to see the turnout in Seattle and the atmosphere given that KeyArena is much larger than Comcast Arena. The upper bowl will probably be draped off in an attempt to create a more intimate atmosphere, according to Stealth director of communications Mike Kennett.
Kennett also said that as last Saturday, the team had already sold more tickets for the division final, which is good news considering the opponent — Edmonton.
The Rush, who beat defending champion Calgary 11-7 on Saturday, have been playing phenomenal lacrosse in the second half of the season, twice beating the Stealth. Goaltender Matt Disher made 60 saves against the Roughnecks.
Here’s an advance for the game written by Derek Van Diest of the Edmonton Sun.
Look for my advance in Saturday’s edition of the Herald.
Rhys Duch video
Rhys Duch is saving his best lacrosse for the end of the season. Duch scored his first career sock-trick on April 24 vs. Rochester. Then followed it up with his second straight sock-trick in an 11-point night Saturday against Minnesota.
Here’s an interview Mike Kennett did with Rhys following the West Division semifinal win over Minnesota.
