EVERETT — Brandon Schaeffer struck out 10 and allowed no runs on just four hits in 6.1 innings in his debut for Everett and the AquaSox opened a six-game home series against the Vancouver Canadians with a 2-0 win.
Schaeffer, a 23-year-old left-hander, was promoted earlier in the day after making 11 starts with the Low-A Modesto Nuts. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariner in the 18th round in 2022 out of North Carolina.
Jarod Bayless, Kyle Hill and Logan Rinehart combined to throw 2.2 innings of hitless relief to close out the win.
Axel Sanchez scored on a balk in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie, and Harry Ford added an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for Everett (26-26). Ford also threw out a runner and stole two bases in the game.
Gabriel Martinez had a double, one of just four total hit for Vancouver (27-24).
