Silvertips director of player development Scott Scoville will step down to accept a scouting position with the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets.
Scoville had been with the Tips from the beginning, being hired as the team’s head scout a year before the team began play in 2003. He’s essentially spent the past nine years acting as Everett’s head scout and point man for the bantam draft.
Scoville is just the latest member of the summer exodus, joining head coach Craig Hartsburg, associate head coach Jay Varady, athletic trainer Chris Walker and broadcaster Jon Rosen. Scoville isn’t leaving immediately, however, as he’ll remain in place through training camp.
I’m not surprised by this. Nine years is a long time in that position at this level, particularly for a younger guy who has ambition to move up. This gets Scoville’s foot in the NHL door.
